Ms. Smith, a classical singer and teacher, has more than twenty years of professional experience in her field. She currently serves as the Director of Music at First United Methodist Church of Dothan, Alabama where she conducts the Chancel Choir, Westminster Handbell Choir, Cherub Choir, Wesley's Warblers, Children's Chimers, and provides music instruction for the FUMC Weekday Ministry (Daycare).
From August 2011 until August 2023, she taught voice, music appreciation, music theory, vocal diction, musical theater, and chamber choir at Enterprise State Community College in Enterprise, Alabama. Previously she taught at schools such as the University of Colorado at Boulder, Temple University, Auburn
University Montgomery, Alabama State University, Wallace College, and Faulkner University.
She also manages The Healthy Singer voice studio, and in January 2023, she joined the board of directors for the Tri-State Community Choir. Beginning fall 2017 until spring 2019, she held the office of First Vice-President in charge of selections for the Coffee County Arts Alliance (CCAA).
She is an accomplished musician with a bachelor's degree in vocal performance from Huntingdon College, a Master of Music History from Temple University, and she is currently pursuing her PhD in Musicology.
She maintains an extensive, vocal repertoire of classical literature, opera, sacred, and Broadway selections, which she has performed in numerous local venues. Ms. Smith performed her first faculty recital at ESCC in 2017 and hopes to continue offering such events in the future.
Ms. Smith attempts to develop each student's voice on an individual basis. Students who are interested in studying classical, healthy vocal technique for application in the singing of various vocal styles will benefit from lessons.
The main learning goals for each student include learning how the voice works, developing vocal habits that use the voice to its fullest potential while maintaining general health and well being, and assembling a repertoire appropriate to one’s developing skill level.
